Pigeon Proofing, St Thomas' Hospital, London

The below sets of photos show 4 x 50mm pigeon nets installed between the walkways of the newly constructed children's ward at St Thomas' hospital, london. The net was installed to architects plans by installing all fixings at the glass panels (approx 1.3m in length) to blend the net with the structure. Stainless Steel fixings were used throughout the installation and specially made Hilti brackets were used for attaching nets to steel work. From the ground (and from the below photo) the net was vertically invisible from view.

Access was via the scaffolding system installed, however a large majority of the net was attached using the onsite cherry picker as access was limited to the main two walkways. All the drainage outlets were proofed with weldmesh to prevent pigeons from gaining access. As with all works carried out by ourselves a full risk assessment and method statement was carried out before any works were commenced.
